Early on, Megamind lures Metro Man to the old observatory and blasts him with a sun-powered death ray, apparently vaporizing him; the hero had claimed the copper-lined dome weakened his powers, and only a charred cape and skeleton are left. Metro City mourns and Megamind takes over, then grows bored without a nemesis. Midway through, Megamind and Roxanne discover Metro Man alive in his secret hideout, where he confesses he faked the copper weakness and his own death because he was burned out on heroing and wants to play guitar. He returns in disguise at the end to cheer Megamind's turn as the city's hero.
Fake death: staged by death ray in the first act, revealed as a hoax at the midpoint. Metro Man is alive and well at the end.
