After a life of war, grief, bootlegging and revenge, Tristan outlives nearly everyone he loves. The epilogue, narrated by One Stab, jumps to 1963: an aged Tristan investigating an animal carcass in the North Country is confronted by a grizzly. He draws his knife and fights it, and dies in the struggle, a 'good death' that bookends the bear that clawed him at age twelve.
Shown briefly on screen and narrated. Samuel, Isabel Two and Susannah all die before him.
