Dim, exuberant gym trainer Chad breaks into Osborne Cox's house to dig up more 'intelligence' and hides in a bedroom closet when Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney), a jumpy U.S. Marshal sleeping with Cox's wife, comes home. Harry opens the closet door, Chad grins nervously, and Harry reflexively shoots him in the head. Finding no ID and the tags cut from Chad's suit, Harry concludes he's killed a government spy and dumps the body. The CIA later finds the corpse and quietly buries the whole affair.
Abrupt, played for shock comedy; Chad's death comes roughly two-thirds through and derails every character's scheme.
