Richard and Susan are American tourists in Morocco, their marriage strained by the recent crib death of their infant son, when a stray rifle shot fired by two goat-herder boys hits Susan through the tour-bus window. Richard drags her to a remote village, where a local vet stitches the wound and the other tourists abandon them. After an agonizing wait, a helicopter finally airlifts them to a hospital in Casablanca, where Susan is expected to recover. Richard is never physically harmed.
The wounded character is Cate Blanchett's Susan, not Pitt's Richard; she survives.
